I used to believe this, but I think maturity lies in communication. You don’t ask “why” someone doesn’t call you - you tell them how you feel about it; that you’d like to talk to them more, and you ask them how you can be there for them too. You do your best to understand them.

@charliprangley See if they can get a weekly rate instead of day rate. Depends on the work. Web/app design: I’m $7-10k/wk. Depends on work. A lot of my friends are $4-5k/wk. Lower end I’ve seen recently from friends is $3-4K week.
